Airbnb launches its own branded apartments in Florida in partnership with property developer Newgard Development Group, reports the Financial Times. The apartments will be called “Niido powered by Airbnb”, and the 300th building in Kissimmee will be built and owned by Newgard. It is expected to open in 2018 and will contain key-free access and secure storage options for tenants who want to rent their premises. Tenants can rent their apartments through Airbnb up to 180 days a year.
Those who rent their accommodation will handle bookings with a program and host essentially looks like a serviced apartment with a lot of on-site and a mandatory cleaning. In the case of short-term rentals, Newgard would have a 25 percent discount, 3 percent on Airbnb, the rest will be returned to the tenant.
Airbnb said the project “fits its long-term strategy”, while Newgard said the company plans to build 2,000 units of the Airbnb brand for the next two years. He is currently working with five other Airbnb apartment complexes, looking for “good neighborhoods and good design,” says Harvey Hernandez, CEO of Newgard. “The demographic data we target more than ever,” says Hernandez. “So when this property is empty, they can earn money with it.”
